The following blog post contains the week nine tutorial discussion questions and answers. It is based on the week nine reading ‘What is ‘Post Digital’ by author Florian Cramer.

Discussion Questions:

1. What, in your own words, IS the “post-digital” exactly?

To me, the term ‘post-digital’ can be seen as a modern disillusionment with digital information systems and gadgets, where peoples fascination with these instruments become outdated, and therefore new developments are created to replace the old. It is a movement in which changes in time.

2. Are we living in a “post-digital” environment (yet)? What’s your evidence for your opinion?

I believe we are living in a ‘post-digital’ environment. Everyday people are involved with their iPhones or laptops, to a point where it is ingrained in society and culture. Through the continuous development and improvement in technology we are living in this environment.

3. Find an example of “post-digital” art or design not discussed in the reading or lecture. Link to it and give a description.

An example of “post-digital” design is the “Colour Chaser”, designed by London based product designer Yuri Suzuki. The ‘Colour Chaser’ is a miniature vehicle that ‘follows a black line whilst it reads crossing coloured linesand translates this RGB data into sound’, ~~aka it turns different colours into sounds~~. The sound is played through built in speakers (Suzuki, 2018).
